New Facilities Highlight Start of Year

Demolition and construction crews that have called Rockhurst High School "home" for the last year are officially moved out.  The new lower campus facility, the Hawklets Center, located at Dasta Memorial Stadium opened the first week of August, while the new Academic Learning Commons, in the heart of the school, was completed just hours before the first day of classes.

Both spaces are remarkable - and will enhance the academic, spiritual, social, and athletic experiences of Rockhurst students, alumni, and friends.

Curricular Enrichments

Rockhurst High School is committed to developing a nationally-recognized curriculum in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), including computer coding, robotics, and experience-based courses.  This is evident throught Rockhurst's recognition as the first school in Missouri or Kansas to earn the STEM Certification from AdvancEd (more here).  The goal is to utilize technology, modern teaching techniques, and Rockhurst's network of alumni, parents, and friends to excite, engage, and prepare every student that walks through our doors.

Creating facilities to support the aforementioned curriculum is crucial for success.  An Academic Learning Commons has become the learning heart of the school.  Outdated library and computer classrooms were replaced with rooms for group projects, a technology services desk, individual spaces for quiet study, several modern classrooms, and gathering spaces for students and faculty.

Co-Curricular Enrichments

Throughout Rockhurst's history, one of the primary areas where it has excelled in forming students has been in athletics and co-curriculars.  We have completed building a 16,000-square foot state-of-the-art lower campus building, called the Hawklets Center.  The two-story multipurpose facility includes a field house on the first floor, with locker rooms, training facilities, and small meeting rooms.  The second floor features a flexible meeting room with movable walls that can be used for classrooms, retreats, or as a gathering space for alumni, parents, and friends, an outdoor covered portico, as well as coaches' offices that serve all of our athletic programs.
